What's new?
What is emotional health? It's measured by your capacity to engage in playful moments. You see, a healthy nervous system has the flexibility to "let go". It can release tension naturally, without drugs, even without hot baths or meditation.
You might say your therapeutic work is done when you can play again, even when the going gets tough. Click to continue
Terry, my techie, was having the dickens of a time getting connected to the Internet server. He spent hours at it and we chatted briefly about it later in the day. During our conversation, I told him about the article I was writing on being triggered. I was wondering if this was fitting for what was happening for him. In response, he readily acknowledged that it was. The feeling of "why me" catapulted him into an emotional spiral reminicent of being picked on in the school yard. He had a hard time settling down and started doubting himself...all the hallmarks of being triggered.
As it happens, I was having my own quasi-meltdown. (Mercury in retrograde?) I was involved in a bigger-than-little-tussle with our friends at Paypal. I had been emailing a customer rep all day trying to get the bottom of a problem. I worked three hours on my last email and clicked the send button and it was promptly returned. The ticket was closed. Was I irked! And, within moments I dropped into something very familiar...that little girl part of me that felt misunderstood and left behind.
As upset as I was, my reaction was not all about Paypal. That younger part of me arose from my own history. What's important to understand--as hard as it may seem--is that our past rumbles into our present when issues are not resolved. And, it can be really confusing at times.
Being able to discern in the present what is arising from the past helps us understand the intensity of our feelings and with that, why we're being triggered today. Click to continue
Maybe you've done affirmations before and maybe they kinda worked. Well, here's a right brain approach to put affirmations back to work! You see, if you only use your "thought-based" left brain when you make an affirmation you're using only half a brain!
Bring on the "emotion-based" right brain and you'll supercharge your affirmations. You see, when you read or have a thought, you're in the left brain. Conversely, when you feel an emotion, or any body sensation actually, you're "in" the right brain.
But just to make it even easier to get started I've added something special. When you click the image box, look for your affirmation in the upper left corner. Then watch. As the image appears you'll be drawn into a positive feeling state--a right brain-based state.
It's the left brain shaking hands with the right brain! Cool eh!
BTW, the more you're into spirit, the more meaning your daily affirmation will have for you. Click to continue
