Rehabilitation Counselors
Rehab Counselors help individuals with disabilities live independently and be more connected to the community. Disabilities include physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional.
Their work includes but is not limited to:
- helping you get back to work after injury
- helping you make adjustments following a disability
- coordinating your care among different health professionals such as medical doctors, physio’s, kinesiologists etc.
- conducting an analysis of the job site in preparation for a return to work
- career (vocational) counselling
- assisting your family in accessing services and providing care
Certified Clinical Counselors
The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) sets the standard for quality rehabilitation counseling services in the U.S. and Canada. To find a counselor in your area click the appropriate link below:

Standards for the Designation
1. Level of Education – Master’s Degree required.
2. Supervised Experience – 600 hours
3. Regulation – Non–Legislated Designation, Self-Regulating.
4. Ethical Code - Yes
5. Complaint Process Available – Yes
6. Continuing Education Required – Yes. Renewal every 5 years.

RRP – Registered Rehabilitation Counsellor
This is our Canadian home-grown designation; a members driven organization
essentially set up to promote the profile of a rehab counsellor. A
qualified counsellor may apply to the Canadian Association for
Rehabilitation Professionals for this title but there is no consumer
protection beyond this. You’ll notice that some counsellors have both
RRP and CCRC.
Standards for the Designation
1. Level of Education – Undergrad Degree Required.
2. Supervised Experience – None, however 2 years of work related experience are required.
3. Regulation – Non-Legislated Designation, Self-Promoting.
4. Ethical Code – Yes.
5. Complaint Process – Unknown as far as we know.
6. Continuing Education Required – Yes. 100 units every 5 years
