Lifestyle Tip
The trouble with life is there's no background music..
What is RSS?
If you're like me, you've seen these little orange RSS or XML buttons scattered around the Internet. I know you may be thinking…wait, not another thing!
However…now, that I know…Wow, they're very cool! RSS or XML feeds save you time. They immediately tell you when our site has been updated. One visit to your feed page and it's all there, all the latest updates.
Apparently it's "the next big thing" and as one PR rep told me, "everyone is using them in Europe".
What else can I do with RSS?
We wouldn’t expect you to set up RSS just to see one site. The power of RSS is more obvious when you start subscribing to lots of sites. Then, instead of looking at 10 or 20 sites one by one, you can just check your RSS reader and see what’s new on all the sites you normally visit. Quite the time saver.
You can use them to get newsfeeds from CNN or BBC, as well as just about anything else (including yours truly!), and news on upcoming movies, DVD releases, your favourite tour updates etc.
Once you get started, it's like having your Favourites (or your Bookmarks) come to you! No need to go out and check for updates all the time.
"RSS" ("Really Simple Syndication") means that when you subscribe to a site that has an RSS feed, you can keep up-to-date without having to check the site all the time.
In order to take advantage of RSS, you need to have an RSS reader that will grab the new information in our feed and alert you that it’s there
How do I get an RSS reader?
Most RSS readers are totally free, and are divided into two main groups: downloaded applications that live on your computer and web-based readers that you can access from any computer on the web.
How do you get started?
Easy!
Download a RSS Reader first. This is free software that collects and organizes the RSS feeds. Here’s a good list of some popular RSS readers available to you for free.
Applications
Feedblitz
Windows -- RssReader

Firefox

Once you're set up, here's all you have to do...
Right-click (control-click for Mac users) on any orange RSS button on a site, blog or news source that interests you. Start by right-clicking on the orange button below. Then...
Select "Copy Shortcut" ("Copy Link to Clipboard" for Mac Safari; "Copy Link Location" for Firefox browsers), and paste that URL into your RSS Reader.
And that's it! You're subscribed.
Right-click and get started.
