Yoga Positions for Beginners

You can begin yoga at any age and no matter what shape your body is in. There are some common poses that are used by all types of yoga. This video illustrates a number of them.

Tips for Beginner Yoga Students

  1. When you move into your thoughts (we all do) during a pose, gently guide yourself back into feeling the sensations of your body. The more you're able to do this, the more you give your body free rein to do what it needs to do to calm your body down.
  2. Bring awareness of your breath to different body areas that you focus on. By doing so, you are bringing in a resource to help calm the sensations that are being triggered during your movement.
  3. To benefit the most from yoga, I suggest you join a group or class. Not only does it tend to help keep your motivation up, but the energy from others is catagious!
